Education

Thompson achieved a Bachelor of Science degree and was awarded a Doctor of Business and Finance from Texas Wesleyan University.

Teaching Experience

Thompson has over 16 years of teaching experience. After his retirement from corporate management, he has taught an entrepreneurial business program for twelve years at California State University Los Angeles and at Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, Texas. He has eight years’ experience as a substitute teacher in public schools in Fort Worth, Texas and Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Management Experience

Carson Thompson gained extensive management experience at Tandy Corporation for over twenty one years during its rapid growth. The corporation included RadioShack during its growth from 9 stores to 7,000 with over $1 billion in sales, Tandy Leather Company that expanded from 80 stores to 269, ColorTile that expanded to several hundred stores, and over 20 other divisions.

During his time with Tandy, Thompson served as manager of a distribution center, divisional head of marketing and merchandising, divisional president, and corporate leadership of six divisions.

Tandy later separated into five public corporations. Thompson served 17 years as Chairman, President and Chief Executive of one of new corporations. He purchased The Bombay Company into this corporation and led in its growth from two stores to 440, from 20 team members to over 3,500, sales from $1 million to $317 million, and to a market value of $1.1 billion.

His international experience includes Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Uruguay, England, Scotland, France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and South Korea.

After retirement from Bombay Thompson has owned and successfully operated multiple private businesses. His experience includes providing business advisory services for over 100 startup businesses, small businesses ready to grow, mid-sized businesses, and businesses needing financing.

Key Accomplishments

As a divisional president of a Tandy Corporation company Thompson led in rescuing a failing business with a unique program to retain six manufacturing plants. It was accomplished by importing cut leather parts from Argentina to take advantage of currency exchange rates, export credits and lower labor rates. The program was maintained despite a military coup in Argentina in March 1976. The program was cancelled but was reinstated after 3 weeks of effort by Thompson in Argentina while the coup was in process.

As Chairman, President and Chief Executive of the corporation spun-off from Tandy, he purchased The Bombay Company into that corporation for $26,000. Bombay had two stores and was on the verge of bankruptcy. He led in its expansion from the 2 stores to 440 stores in the United states and Canada, increased sales from $1 million to $317 million, developed an operation of 3,500 team members in the United States, Canada, and Asia, and reached a market value of $1.1 billion.

Bombay overcame serious economic conditions in 1980 to 1983, with the inflation rate reaching 13.5%, interest rates reached 21.5%, and unemployment rate reached 10.4%.

A franchise Bombay store in Canada was purchased in 1981 despite the strong opposition of the Canadian government with their agency FIRA. Approval was granted only after 6 months of persistence with the use a well-connected lawyer Ian Currie at Fraser & Beatty in Toronto, Canada. We then opened sixty stores in Canada and achieved over $40M in profitable sales.
